We have an exciting opportunity for a waking night support worker to play a vital role in providing support at our Shore House project.

Location: Shore House Marine Parade
Salary: £25,529 with anti-social hours enhancement of £2,312 per annum
Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Permanent

As a waking night support worker, you will be working for a people-led organisation whose mission and values is to inspire change across Sussex.
About the project:
Shore House is an innovative service providing accommodation and 24-hour support to 20 people with mental health diagnoses and complex needs - this includes those with a dual diagnosis, such as alcohol or substance misuse. Support is delivered both 1:1 and in groups to deliver personalised and flexible programmes of support to build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed for independent living within an 18-month timeframe. We work closely with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust adult community mental health services to meet the needs of clients. Working at Shore House, you will be able to make a diffidence in the lives of vulnerable individuals who face adversity in society.
About the Role
As a waking night support worker at Shore House, you will provide support and practical assistance to vulnerable clients with mental health diagnosis, complex support needs and substance misuse issues. You will work in a psychologically and trauma informed way to promote growth and empower individuals to achieve their goals and move on to lower support accommodation. As a waking night support worker, you undertake numerous tasks such as, supporting clients in crisis to access support, promoting engagement, support in maintaining residents’ personal spaces, providing person-centred emotional support during the night, medication administration, building safety checks, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with clients to meet their support needs by providing an empathetic and responsive person-centred approach.
- Deliver support using a range of methods to ensure clients feel safe and secure and are treated with dignity and respect.
- Monitor all areas of the premises and ensuring adherence to security and safety procedures.
- Work with services and professionals within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and out-of-hours support and/or emergency services.
- Administer medication to clients in accordance with BHT Sussex policy and procedure (training is provided).
- Complete medication stock counts in accordance with Shore House medication policy and procedure.
Person Specification:
To be successful in the role of waking night support worker you will need to have great communication skills and be committed to the values of BHT Sussex. Some of the key skills and experience you will need to bring with you include:
- Experience of providing emotional and practical support for clients who have complex needs.
- Ability to respond calmly and practically to incidents and writing clear case notes and incident reports.
- Ability to work reliably as part of a team.
- Knowledge and an understanding of risk management and Health and Safety and the ability to implement policy and procedure.
- A professional approach and attitude to supporting and empowering clients to live independent lives.
