Bank Cover Worker – Hastings Young People’s Service (HYPS)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Bank Cover Worker to play a vital role in providing flexible support across our Young People’s Accommodation Service.

About the Role:
In this bank position, you will provide essential support at our high-support accommodation for young people aged 16-25 with complex needs at Stage One (7 Brittany Road) and our more independent Stage Three flats at 73 Filsham Road. Our services support residents on a journey towards independent living through a structured life skills program covering essential topics, including cooking, budgeting, social skills, health and safety, and employment readiness.
You will cover staff absences, working independently to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. Responsibilities include overseeing building security, assessing risk, managing incidents, and monitoring the safety of the building overnight. Shifts vary across both sites, with a mixture of early, late, wake-in, and sleep-in shifts.

BHT Sussex is a people-led organisation with a mission to inspire change across Sussex. As a Bank Support Worker, you will support young people using a psychologically informed, strength-based, and trauma-informed approach, equipping them with the tools they need to live independently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work according to the Lone Working Policy to maintain safety while covering staff absences.
- Provide responsive, sensitive support to residents, with an understanding of race, culture, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and disability.
- Support clients using a strengths-based approach in a psychologically informed environment (PIE) to help young people navigate complex needs and develop resilience.
- Operate the door entry system at each site and manage access to the building.
- Adhere to Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies, reporting concerns in line with BHT Sussex procedures.
Person Specification:
To excel as a Bank Support Worker at BHT Sussex, you will demonstrate strong communication skills and commitment to our values. Essential requirements include:
- Experience supporting young people (ages 16-25) with complex needs.
- Experience working with individuals impacted by issues such as resettlement, substance misuse, mental health challenges, trauma, or offending histories, using a strength-based, solution-focused approach.
- Ability to remain calm and effectively manage conflict, setting fair and proportionate boundaries.
- Knowledge of Child Protection and Adult Protection policies and reporting procedures.
- Good understanding of Health and Safety in a residential setting.
